Loss of computer data
As part of the repair process, it may sometimes be necessary to re-format your computer's internal or external drive(s) and/or to re-install your computer's operating system (for example, Microsoft Windows® or Apple macOS®). Both of these procedures are carried out only as a last resort, after all other reasonable means of diagnosing and resolving the problem have been attempted.
Any data you regard as required, important or critical should be backed up — saved to another drive, to removable media, or to a cloud storage service — before any re-installation of the operating system or re-formatting of a drive. Following a successful re-format, all data on that drive will have been erased. Following a successful re-installation of the operating system, your computer will have been returned to factory settings — the state it was in when it left the manufacturer.
Computer data can also be lost for many other reasons: drive faults, virus or malware infections, corruption of files or folders, and so on. The only effective way to safeguard against loss of data is to maintain a regular and systematic backup routine. I am happy to help you set one up.

No Fix – No Fee policy
If I do not possess the necessary technical knowledge or ability to resolve the problem or effect the repair, then no charge is made to you.
The policy does not apply in the following cases:
- I am able to resolve the problem or effect the repair, but am prevented from doing so because you ask me not to proceed with the work.
- I am able to resolve the problem or effect the repair, but am prevented from doing so because you do not possess the required software, licence or product key, or the account credentials needed (for example, a Microsoft, Apple or email account password).
- I provide a clear and precise diagnosis of a failed component and you decide not to proceed with its replacement.
The policy also does not apply to work related to data recovery, laptop screen replacement, third-party issues (for example, faults with your broadband provider or an online service), computer virus or malware problems, or to cases in which the equipment has been damaged by a power surge or lightning strike.
